It is really important to secure a Pop Up Gazebo. Remember, a Gazebo is a temporary structure with no foundations. Our Gazebos are Pop Up design so they are set up and taken down in minutes. They fold down for easy transportation and storage. Our Standard, Commercial and Industrial ranges are all classed as Heavy Duty and are robust and reliable. However, they are not designed to be erected and left without consideration.
What happens if there is no security or insufficient security?
All our gazebo models come with a set of guy ropes and metal pegs. These are great for when pitching on a soft surface in calm weather conditions and when the gazebo is constantly occupied.
The following circumstances require more security:
- An exposed pitching position where the Gazebo is open to the elements. The shelter will be more likely to be affected by the wind. The standard guy ropes and pegs may not be strong enough to withstand strong gusts of wind. If you are caught out in the wind and need to take urgent action, we recommend you first lower the structure to its lowest point and adjust the straps.
- A hard pitching surface. If you are putting your gazebo up on concrete or slabs, the guy ropes may not be usable. You won’t have any anchoring at all.
In these instances, there is a high possibility of your gazebo blowing away. The impact will damage the frame, most commonly the leg joints or concertina roof bars. The canopy and walls material, although tough polyester, can tear on broken parts or sharp objects.
Spare parts available! Don’t panic if this does happen to you because Gazebos Galore stock all spare parts for their frames. This includes replacement canopies and walls.

- Heavy Duty Tie Down Kit ( set of 4 ratchet straps and sturdy metal pegs). These are for soft ground when you need extra support in an exposed position.
- Sandbags are an economical way to apply extra weight when pitching on soft or hard ground. When filled with sand, they give 8kg of weight to each gazebo leg. They simply attach to the frame with velcro straps.
- Metal weights are our best option for security on hard ground but are also used on grass. They are easy to apply and give 12kg of weight to each leg. You can double up on the weights if necessary. They are designed to fit around the leg, over the foot plate.
WARNING – always carry out a risk assessment before using your gazebo. Check weather reports regularly because forecasts change. Sudden, unpredictable gusts of wind come from all directions. No temporary structure is designed to combat such conditions.
